Nordea Group entered the Lithuanian market in 2000. Nordea Bank Lietuva is now one of the most rapidly growing banks in Lithuania. It provides all the main banking services to individual and corporate customers.
2007 was the most successful year since the moment Nordea, one of the biggest financial groups in the Scandinavian and Baltic countries, opened its branch, named Nordea Bank Lietuva, in Lithuania. In addition to rapid expansion, Nordea has managed to keep a high level of profitability and experienced stable financial results in all sectors of its banking business. In 2007 the capital of of the Lithuanian branch advanced 73.3 percent to 5.629 billion litas. The bank exceeded its target of increasing capital to 5 billion litas, and according to preliminary data, occupied fifth place in the Lithuanian banking system. In 2007 its loan portfolio increased 77 percent and amounted to 4.338 billion litas. Corporate loans amounted to 2.842 billion litas (compared to 2006 this figure increased 73.4 percent). The bank’s portfolio of individual loans rose 85 percent and reached 1.495 billion litas. The amount of deposits held at the bank grew 26.2 percent to 1.088 billion litas. In 2007 the Lithuanian Branch of Nordea Bank Finland Plc gained a profit of 19.101 billion litas.
In order to strengthen its position in the retail banking sector, Nordea Bank Lietuva rapidly expanded its network and opened bank branches in locations that would ensure maximum comfort for present and future customers. In 2007 Nordea Bank Lietuva opened seven new branches, and at the end of the year it operated 21 branches situated in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Panevėžys and Šiauliai. In the previous year, Nordea Bank Lietuva employed 340 people.
